The 147th British Open is less than 24 hours away. We’ve got everything you need to know to keep up with the action and all the big-name groups at Carnoustie.

I love the British Open. I know, it’s the hottest of takes. While the Masters is a glorious week of tradition, with the allure and mystique of Augusta National, the Open is a wonder all its own. For starters, it’s a week-long history lesson on the wonderful game. Each course in the rota has its own legacy, its own story to tell. Even though your average golfer can pretty easily get on all these courses, the challenge to the game’s greats is impossible to replicate.

Of course, that’s all well and good, but we’re also fans here. And for those of us located in the United States, there’s nothing like major championship golf starting before most of us normally even wake up. I normally make it a point to stay up late on Wednesday night, just to watch the earliest groups tee off.

If you’re like me – and if you’re reading this, you probably are – this is your guide for the week. We’ve got all your British Open scheduling here, including how you can watch the action at Carnoustie, and when your favorite players will tee off.

On the television front, NBC Sports will host the Open Championship for the third year. The peacock took over broadcast rights from ESPN back in 2016, ending a half-century of ABC/ESPN ownership. Thankfully, we still get to enjoy one of the best broadcasters in golf, Mike Tirico, who joined NBC just before the 2016 Open. For my money, he’s as good as anyone in the business, and he adds to every event he covers.

For everyone on the go (or at work), we’ll also have tons of coverage online. The Open has its own app available with live streaming, scoreboards and highlights, and I absolutely recommend that to all fans. In addition, the NBC Sports app and GolfChannel.com will have live streams and on-demand video as well. You really can’t go wrong however you choose to watch.

British Open: Coverage schedule at Carnoustie

  • Friday: Live coverage from 1:30 AM to 4 PM (Eastern) on Golf Channel. Highlights from 8 PM to 2:30 AM.
  • Saturday: Golf Channel hosts live from 4:30 to 7 AM Eastern. NBC takes over from 7 AM to 3 PM, with highlights airing on Golf Channel through midnight.
  • Sunday: Golf Channel live from 4:30 to 7 AM. NBC will feature live coverage from 7 through the end of the championship.
  • Streaming available throughout the majority of the tournament at TheOpen.com. Also available through the NBC Sports app.

British Open Featured Groups

The British Open does as good a job as any spreading its superstars out. While the Masters has a highly limited field and the USGA creates unique groups, the Open doesn’t discriminate. Here’s a look at some of the biggest names. A full list of the week’s tee times will be available here.

Keep in mind that all players begin play on the first tee – no shotgun starts at The Open. That would simply be unbecoming.
