He can’t do it again, can he? Jhonattan Vegas is going for three wins in a row at the Canadian Open.

The Venezuelan came within one of matching Tiger Woods’ tournament record of 22-under when Vegas beat Charley Hoffman in a playoff last year.

In 2016, Vegas won by one at 12-under over Dustin Johnson, Martin Laird and Jon Rahm.

Vegas had a tumultuous time last week at the Open Championship.

He didn’t arrive to Carnoustie until less than an hour before his tee time Thursday due to an expired visa. Multiple snaps of bad luck, including lost luggage and having to play with new clubs, led to a missed cut.

Hopefully returning to a comfortable locale in Glen Abbey will turn around his fortune.

Vegas has three top-20s this season and made five cuts in a row prior to misses at the Travelers Championship and the Open.

This streaky player hasn’t been in peak form lately, but he came into last year’s Canadian Open off of five missed cuts in a row and things turned out pretty well.

Vegas didn’t hit a ton of fairways last year but he muscled his way to 75 percent greens in regulation. He gained over three shots on the field in putting during his final-round 65.

The course played soft last year and may again this year.

"“You’re going to have to fly things right next to the hole. Especially some of these holes around here, where some of that pin positions are so protected from bunkers and water, that you’re going to have to hit your irons really well to score,” Vegas said in 2017."
