This is the fifth of five tournaments in 2018 Justin Thomas has defended. After an innocuous T56 in 2015 and a missed cut in 2016, Thomas got the hang of things with a three-shot victory last year.

Thomas recently earned his second win of the year and third of the season at the WGC-Bridgestone. The cut machine has missed the weekend only once Open Championship. Aside from the poor draw he received at the Open, Thomas has just one T56 with the rest of his 16 starts in 2018 resulting in the top 25.

On the season, Thomas is second on Tour just behind Dustin Johnson in shots gained tee to green. He’s easily in the black in every strokes gained category and ranks sixth in birdie average and top five in par-4 and par-5 scoring.

Thomas opened up the FedEx Cup Playoffs with a T8 and is a lock to advance to the BMW Championship and likely the Tour Championship.

Without having to worry about points or what Steve Sands is doing at the monitor, Thomas will be freed up to go for back-to-back wins.
