This tournament means as much to Thorbjorn Olesen as any in the field. The great Dane is playing not only to impress his home fans, but to make his first Ryder Cup team. To do so requires no worse than a tie for seventh and either Eddie Pepperell or Matt Fitzpatrick winning to overtake him on the points list.

If Olesen can block out the distractions and continue his form, he should be just fine. Thunder Bear has five top-10s in his last nine starts including a win at the Rolex Series’ Italian Open and a T3 stateside at the WGC-Bridgestone. He posted a solo fourth in his last start at the Nordea Masters where he was in the mix to win until the final few holes. He is fresh after taking last week’s Czech Masters off.

Olesen is looking for his first win on home turf, though he does have a T7 in 2014 and a T14 last year at the Made in Denmark.

If this week is about reaching low scores, it’ll suit his game as he’s eighth on the European Tour in birdies. He’s also 24th in putts per round and 18th in scrambling.
