Erik Van Rooyen has had a successful rookie season. He’s locked up his status for 2019 and can now focus on picking up his first win.

The South African has had some chances this year with four top-10s in 18 starts, 15 of which came on the European Tour.

Van Rooyen finished solo fifth but was just one shot out of the four-man playoff thanks to a Sunday 65.

The 28-year-old former Minnesota Golden Gopher also played well at the Open Championship (T17) as well as big events like the BMW PGA Championship (T20) and the Irish Open (T4).

On the season, Van Rooyen ranks 20th in scoring average. He’s fourth in greens in regulation and 12th in strokes gained tee to green.

If his short game improves, which it should down the road as he sees these courses for the second and third times, he hits it well to contend anywhere.
