Sergio Garcia and his foundation are the hosts this week, as the European Tour is in his native Spain for the Andalucia Valderrama Masters.

The final regular season European Tour event is here. Some players have qualified for next week’s WGC-HSBC Championship in China, but most are using this week as the last chance at positioning before the top 70 move on to the Race to Dubai Final Series.

This week’s Andalucia Valderrama Masters is in its fourth edition and picked back up last year after an absence since 2011.

Real Club Valderrama is the host course and is most well-known for hosting the 1997 Ryder Cup. It’s also welcomed the European Tour’s Volvo Masters (1988-96, 2002-08) and the Open de Espana (2016) as well as the WGC-American Express Championship (now WGC-Mexico) in 1999-2000.

The Robert Trent Jones design plays to a par 71 at 6,990 yards. It played very difficult in 2016 when Andrew Johnston won at 1-over, but it has since undergone renovations that appear to make it a more benign test.

Last year, host Sergio Garcia picked up his second tournament win by reaching 12-under.

The course is short, but penal rough and an abundance of trees put playing from the fairway integral to finding the small, undulating greens.

There are chances of rain for the first few days and temperatures are expected to hover in the 60s.
