Sergio Garcia is having a great October. After an impressive Ryder Cup showing, Sergio Garcia continued his hot play with his third consecutive Andalucia Valderrama Masters win.

Sergio Garcia continued his hot play after he quietly became the all-time leading scorer this year for the European squad at the Ryder Cup. He went 3-1-0, scoring his 25.5th career point, passing Nick Faldo.

He likely isn’t done at the Ryder Cup either, as he is only 38, and could easily play in a few more. Many people would take a break after an accomplishment like that. For Sergio, he decided to ride that success into his own foundations tournament near Cadiz, Spain.

Although it has been a few weeks since then, Sergio found himself this past weekend at the Andalaucia Valderrama Masters. This is an event that he had won two years in a row, and he was looking for the three-peat. Considered his home event, Sergio easily won the tournament, albeit with a slight scare in the final round.

Sergio Garcia won the tournament by four strokes over Shane Lowry. The Irishman tried to put together a late charge, but was unable to sustain it and fell back. Lowry still had the low score of the final round, but was hurt by a double bogey on the 15th hole. He still managed to shoot a five under 66, finishing by himself in second place.

After Sergio found himself with a one shot lead after a bogey on 13, he buckled down the rest of the way. A birdie on 14 helped solidify the lead, and his final birdie of the day on 17 put the match away. Sergio shot par on the final hole, and ended up winning the tournament with a score of 12 under.

It has been a while since someone won the same European Tour event three years in a row. The last to do it was the Big Easy, Ernie Els. He accomplished the feat back in 2002-2004, winning the Heineken Classic in Melbourne. Ernie was unable to accomplish the four-peat, and the tournament disbanded after the 2005 event.

Unlike Ernie, Sergio had a gap during his win streak. The tournament was not held from 2012-2016, meaning Sergio won three straight over a period of eight years. Thankfully, Sergio was able to get the tournament started again after he hosted the Open de Espana at the same venue in 2016.

It’s been a nice stretch for Sergio. He set the Euro team points record at the Ryder Cup. He won his third straight Andalaucia Valderrama Masters. He is keeping the event going at that venue via his foundation, and continued success as a golfer. As the year in golf is wrapping up, it looks like it is just the beginning for a new surge from Sergio.
