It was announced earlier today who the pairings would be for the Genesis Open. Tiger Woods will be playing with Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas, making for must see television.

When you tune in to watch this group play Thursday, you aren’t seeing a replay of last year. Tiger Woods was paired with Rory and Justin last year as well.

Tiger Woods is hoping that this time around leads to different results, as he struggled last year, and actually missed the cut. It should be noted that he is in an entirely different place as a golfer than last year. He was trying to get back into the swing of things then, now, he is ready to make a charge back to the top of the world standings.

Rory and Justin both had some thoughts on playing with Tiger, and how challenging it can be. “I swear, playing in front of all that, he (Tiger) gives up half a shot a day on the field,” Rory said. “Like, it’s two shots a tournament he has to give to the field because of all that that goes on around.”

Justin Thomas had some thoughts as well. “… I guess it’s a part of it now, unfortunately. I wish it wasn’t. I wish people didn’t think it was so amusing to yell and all that stuff while we’re trying to hit shots and play.”

It’s amazing that Tiger is able to put rounds together with all that is going on around him. From camera flashes and snaps in his swing, to people yelling “mashed potatoes” (also, please stop), there is always something going on around him. Not only does it affect Tiger, but it makes it difficult for the people that he plays with as well.

Although this tournament is in fact his foundation that acts as the host, Tiger has yet to win. In 12 appearances at the tournament, he has finished in second place twice. 13 is an unlucky number to some, and we will know this weekend if Tiger is one of the people who actually finds luck associated with that number.

There are a couple of incredible groups to watch at the Genesis. Phil Mickelson is going to be playing with Xander Schauffele and Jordan Spieth. Cameron Champ will be matches up with Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson. Meanwhile, Matt Kuchar, John Rahm, and Bryson DeChambeau will be playing together as well.

If you want to turn in to watch any of these guys play, or just to watch Tiger (whether you like him or not, he is always worth the watch), you can do it on CBS and Golf Network. All four days you will be able to find some coverage on Golf Network. Saturday and Sunday, CBS will bring it home to show you the end of the rounds.

The crowds are going to be intense as they follow Tiger and his group around. For Tiger Woods and all his fans, the hope is that he will be able to make it to the weekend this go around. Whether he does or not, make sure to tune in to see an incredible set of golfers.
