Wells Fargo Championship: Dark Horse Candidates at Quail Hollow
The PGA heads to Quail Hollow this week to play The Wells Fargo Championship. You could root for Rory or one of the other favorites. Or, you could pick a dark horse to root for.
This week, we are going to draw the line at 45-1 for the dark horses during the Wells Fargo Championship. This means there are 17 people who have good enough odds to win that they wouldn’t qualify for dark horse candidacy.
Cut, T48th, Cut, T45, Cut. Those were my picks for the RBC Heritage a couple of weeks ago. The guy I took off my list at the very end? None other than C.T. Pan, who was a lowly 200-1. I’ve written about him a couple of times already as I believed in his game, and didn’t want to seem like I was constantly picking the same person. That’s what I get for not trusting my gut.
Picking a dark horse is a fickle game. They are long shots for a reason, and one poor round can derail anyone’s weekend before it even starts.
T12, T43, T49, T21, Cut. My picks for The Masters did a little bit better. For all parties involved, fingers crossed that my picks for this weeks Wells Fargo Championship are more in line with The Masters than they were for The RBC Heritage.
If you are looking for the players most likely to win this week’s event, Mike has got that covered. He writes a weekly power rankings, and it’s consistently fantastic. If you are putting together a fantasy lineup, Hans has got your back. He made his picks for that side of it, and it is also well done.
I want to look deeper. I want to get an idea of some dark horses that could potentially make a run this week, and upset the rest of the field. Someone who is going to make the favorites nervous (or at least the people who bet on them).
I’m ignoring the Zurich Classic for the most part. As a team event, it’s a little hard to gain much insight from it. Here are my dark horse picks for this weeks Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.
