The U.S. Open is getting underway out at Pebble Beach. Here’s a look at who I think is going to win the tournament.

It’s hard to watch a major and not get drawn in to rooting for your favorite golfers. It makes watching more fun, and at Pebble Beach, with how difficult the U.S. Open is looking to be, it should be even more entertaining.

There are a couple of golfers that I think/want to win the tournament. Almost all of them are going to be who I think is going to win, and then a personal favorite that I root for no matter where he is playing. Let’s get to it.

I have to start with Tiger Woods. I’ve written about him before a handful of times, and he is the reason I, like so many others, got into golf. I’m incredibly happy that he is back, and showing the ability to win tournaments and majors once again.

He is one closer to Jack after winning The Masters back in April. He loves Pebble Beach, and has played well there in the past. I truly think that Tiger is going to be the one who takes the trophy home this week, knowing that his window of winning majors is a lot sooner to closing than he would like.

Next, I move to Dustin Johnson. He has been in position at plenty of majors to win, only to have some incident befall him. Whether it was a confusing bunker, a possible bad bounce and three putt at Chambers Bay, going OB at the 2011 Open Championship, or the unfortunate slip before The Masters started a couple years ago.

I enjoy all parts of DJ’s game, and its hard to believe that he only has one major so far. He almost finished off a historic comeback chasing Brooks Koepka at Bethpage, as that was one of his four second place finishes. He has finished in the top 10 at a major in 17 of 40 events. I feel like this could be the week for DJ, and he pushes Tiger.

Xander Schaufflele and Jon Rahm are the two that I am worried about that could steal the major from Tiger. They have shown the ability to play incredibly well, at if they bring it to Pebble Beach, I could see them taking the trophy at this years U.S. Open.

The guy I want to win the most is easily Jim Furyk. It doesn’t matter to me how old he is, where he is playing at, or how he has been playing lately, he is my favorite golfer, and I want to see him win another major.

There is one guy I do not want to see win, and that is Brooks Koepka. All this talk about him being the most dominant golfer ever, and having the hottest stretch of any golfer is ridiculous. Yes, I know he is the first golfer to hold back to back wins concurrently, but those are his only four majors. Pair that with two regular event wins, and the Brooks talk is all recency bias.

I still want to see him on the weekend, as he is a spectacular player. If he misses the cut, you won’t see me shedding a tear. Anyone who is prematurely compared to Tiger and the all-timers needs to take a step back when it is so early on.
