Retief Goosen captured his first win on the PGA Tour Champions last weekend, and it was a rather big win.

Retief Goosen won the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship, which is the 4th Major of the season on the champions tour, making his first win that much more exciting.

The two-time U.S. Open Champion made the cut after a fantastic 2nd round, shooting an -8, 62 for the round. He started that 2nd round with an eagle at the par 5 second and would not look back. He would make six birdies after that, and most importantly no bogeys, putting him into a great spot going into the weekend.

Goosen was in the last group on Saturday after his amazing 2nd round, but his 3rd round was the farthest thing from amazing. He started with a bogey on the first hole, which was his first bogey in 28 holes, and a par at the second.

A nightmare double bogey at three, and a bogey at four would put him at +4 through four holes. Retief would par the rest of the front nine, and the first two on the back nine before going bogey, birdie, bogey on 12,13,14. He would finish up the back nine with four straight pars, ending his day shooting a 75 +5, 13 shots worse than his second round

Retief Goosen was once again in the final pairing on Sunday, and was looking to improve on his horrible Saturday, and he did just that. He started with a bogey at the first, but followed with another Eagle on the second, his second eagle at that hole during the tournament. He parred the rest of the front nine and the tenth before another dreaded double bogey at the eleventh.

After the double bogey Goosen flipped the switch, going birdie, birdie, bogey, par, par, birdie, birdie on the final seven holes locking up a -2 68 for his final round. That brought Goosen to -6 for the championship, and good enough to hold off Jay Haas for his first win on the champions tour.

Retief Goosen added a whopping $420,000 to his money total for season, moving him from 16th, to 8th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings. He still sits just over $1,000,000 behind the leader Steve McCarron. Retief will have another great chance to cut into the lead next weekend at the Senior Open Championship.
