Ryder Cup announces Ireland as host of 2026 event
Another host of the Ryder Cup has been announced, and they will be heading to Ireland in 2026.
Things have been going great for Ireland in the golf world lately. Shane Lowry just won the British Open that was played in Northen Ireland. Now, another Ryder Cup will be played in Ireland, as the 2026 event will be played at Adare Manor.
This is the first time that the event will be held at Adare Manor, although the Ryder Cup has been to Ireland before. Back in 2006, the K Club near Dublin hosted the event. Team Europe prevailed quite easily, with captain Ian Woosman leading them to an 18 1/2 to 9 1/2 drubbing of the United States team.
This edition of the Ryder Cup heading to Ireland falls in line with the amount of recent Ryder Cup captains that are Irish as well. Paul McGinley captained the team in 2014, with Darren Clarke taking the helm in 2016. Currently, Padraig Harrington is set to lead Team Europe in this year’s event at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.

It’s another nice step for Adare Manor too. they held the Irish Open in back to back years, with Padraig Harrington winning in 2007 and Richard Finch of England winning in 2008. The course will seem a little different though, as extensive renovations were started two years ago.
The European Ryder Cup director, Guy Kinnings, had the following to say about the announcement.
"“We are delighted to announce The 2026 Ryder Cup will be staged in Ireland at Adare Manor which is a world class venue, both in terms of the golf course and the wider resort facilities.”“Added to that the fact that Irish golf fans are rightly recognised as some of the most knowledgeable and passionate in the world, as was shown during Shane Lowry’s emotional Open Championship triumph at Royal Portrush on Sunday, there was no question in our minds that the time was right.”"
After seeing the incredible support of the Irish during this year’s British Open, it’s not hard to believe that 2026 will be a fantastic show of support during the event. It was the first time at the British Open that the event had been sold out ahead of time in quite a while. You could see the excitement by fans, watching them stand in line in the inclement weather just waiting for a seat on the 18th on Sunday.
Cheers to the Ryder Cup for deciding to head to Ireland in 2026. It brings even more joy to my happy Irish heart.
