The Wyndham Championship starts later this week in Greensboro! Let’s take a look at the First Round Draftkings Showdown Contest!

Before I discuss my Draftkings showdown picks, I just wanted to mention that this event is obviously far different than the traditional classic contest offered by Draftkings. In my first round showdown article for last week’s FedEx St. Jude Invitational, I discuss the differences in detail. If you are in need of a refresher on the differences in contests feel free to read my article from last week!

The Wyndham Championship is an event that has been played at Sedgefield Country Club every year since 2008. After reviewing previous winning scores at the Wyndham over the last 10 years it is apparent to me that scoring will be in abundance this week.

Based on the data I just outlined, I think it is a necessity to compose your DFS lineups with golfers that have the ability to go low in round one if you hope to win a Draftkings contest this week.

The key statistics I will be looking at for this week’s first-round DraftKings showdown contest are birdie or better percentage and bogey avoidance.

Now let’s get to what I love doing the most! Here are my picks for the first round DraftKings showdown contest.

Peter Malnati (7,200)

My top pick for the showdown contest is Peter Malnati. Malnati is a player that can start quickly and post an outstanding first-round score.

That can be clearly illustrated in his last six opening-round scores on the PGA Tour.

His last six opening-round scores are 70, 67, 67, 68, 66, 66. That is an average opening round score of 67.33 in his last six Tour starts. That is very good.

Malnati is not a player that will ever have statistics that will jump off the page. However, he is currently ranked 17th on the PGA Tour in total birdies (306) made in 2019.

I like the fact that Malnati has played Sedgefield Country Club multiple times before. He also has produced a few good results on this track. Malnati competed in the 2018 Wyndham Championship and finished in 24th place.

Additionally, Malnati has never missed the cut at this golf course. My gut tells me that Malnati will play well and jump out of the gates quickly in round one.

Nick Taylor (7,000)

Taylor has been playing some consistent golf in the last few months. Taylor has made six of his last seven cuts on the PGA Tour. He finished in 15th place in last week’s Barabasol Championship. I think this quality result shows us he is arriving at the Wyndham Championship in very good form.

Upon reviewing Taylor’s recent first-round performances I was quite impressed. Taylor shot an opening-round 64 at the RBC Canadian Open in June. He followed up that great result with a first-round 67 at the John Deere Classic earlier this month and an opening-round 63 at the Barbasol Championship last week.

Nick is currently third on the PGA Tour in total birdies (332) made. Mr. Taylor can clearly score. That is what is a golfer has to do this week to succeed.

I love Taylor’s low DraftKings price of $7,000. In my opinion, that is an outstanding value.

Chez Reavie (8,900)

The winner of the 2019 Travelers Championship is someone I could not pass on backing for the showdown contest.

For me, Reavie is a perfect fit for this course. Reavie currently ranks second on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy. In my opinion, finding the fairway is of high importance this week if you hope to score. I think Reavie will find a high percentage of fairways in this event which will lead to a high number of birdie opportunities on the greens.

Reavie has posted some outstanding first-round scores this year. At the Travelers Championship, he posted an opening-round 65. He followed that up with an opening-round 65 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in June.

It is clear to me that Reavie can get it going early. I expect him to do just that this week. I would not be surprised at all if Reavie was the first-round leader on Thursday afternoon.

Those are my picks for the First Round DraftKings Showdown contest!

*Due to the fact my picks are in the lower price range, you should have plenty of flexibility to include higher-priced players to fill your DFS lineup. As always, good luck!
