The FedEx Cup Final, and in turn the Tour Championship, are finally here.

No more waiting. No more debating and arguing about if the new format is going to work or not. The FedEx Cup’s final event is finally here, and the wait is over.

This doesn’t mean that people are going to stop arguing about it. Mankind will argue about anything and everything. Heck, my best friend and I argued about quality starts in baseball for over two hours one night.

What I mean is that we no longer have to wait. The FedEx Cup final is here, and we finally get to see how it will play out.

I just don’t get any of the arguments against it. Maybe I will be proven wrong, and if I am, I will admit it. I just don’t see how it isn’t going to work out.

No more watching two different golfers win the same tournament. No heading into Sunday with a hypothetical of “Well, if Koepka wants to win, he needs to shoot -4 today, and Rory needs to shoot only -1, and Rose needs to shoot +3 but still get top ten. But, if Justin Thomas can get at least 8th, it doesn’t matter”.

Yeah, that’s way too convoluted. Do you know what makes sense? Letting the most important (or at least highest paying) tournament play out the way any sporting event should play out. The player who wins the event ends up winning the event.

Call me crazy. That’s fine. I think the guy who wins the event should win the whole thing. Especially with the way they set it up.

It’s odd that it took so long for them to get to this point. This is a sport where you can be matched up with golfers of any skill level, and have a handicap difference assigned to make it fair, and they waited until 2019 to implement that into the final event of the season.

I am for this setup, and I am for it 100%. Imagine last year, where Tiger Woods, regardless of what he said, was likely disappointed having to hold the Tour Championship trophy. He stands up there next to Justin Rose, a guy who just won a cooler trophy, will get more recognition for his win and gets WAY more money.

We won’t have any of that, and I am thankful for it. Hey Abraham Ancer, you wanna win the whole kit-n-kaboodle? You better play some fantastic golf, cause Justin Thomas has been better than you this year, and he gets a six-shot head start. Hey Bryson, you better slow play your way to at least 11 fewer shots than Thomas this week if you want a shot at winning.

If you end up upset at the end of the week because one of the golfers at -1 ends up with the best 72 hole score of the week and still loses by three strokes, remember, this is golf. Handicaps are a thing and are something that almost every golfer has to play with when something is on the line.

Playing for a drink at the turn? Gimme three strokes first. Playing with the old man who is 15 strokes worse than you? Better give him a bunch if you wanna make it interesting. In any kind of tournament, you get places based on handicap. There is no reason that this should be any different. Reward people for playing well all year. They deserve it.

If you’re upset with your favorite golfer not being there or think that everyone should be on the same foot entering the tournament…
