The 2019-20 PGA Tour kicks off a new season with A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.

Each week, we will be bringing you the Pro Golf Now staff picks, as we all take our best shots at predicting who is going to win the upcoming week’s event. We start with the opening event, A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.

Depending on how big of a golf fan you are, you probably feel two ways about the start of the season. One, you didn’t even realize that the offseason has come and gone. Or two, you are just excited to see some more PGA Tour golf be played.

The PGA Tour is the longest season for any professional sport, or at least it seems that way. The FedEx Cup just finished at the end of August. Here we are just shy of the halfway mark for September, and a new season is upon us already.

More from Pro Golf Now

Every Wednesday, I will be putting out the Pro Golf Now staff picks for all of our crew who decide to join in on the week’s festivities. This is more of a fun activity where the group gets to lay back and play the fan more than they do the analyst.

We have our weekly power rankings, fantasy golf advice, and dark horse picks. If you are looking for the data side, some long shots to take note of, or some gambling advice, those are the places to go. If you are interested in seeing who your favorite PGN staffer picked or thinks is going to win the upcoming event, then you have come to the right place.

The season is right around the corner, and here is the week one picks for our choices to win A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.

Bryson DeChambeau – 12/1

Richie Randolph – While he had a controversial end to the season (and I named him one of this year’s biggest brats) he is the top-ranked player in the field this weekend. With some time off and the President’s Cup a few months away, where Bryson is an automatic qualifier, I think he begins to focus on what matters and wins in West Virginia.

Viktor Hovland – 12/1

Chris O’Day – He wasn’t able to join his fellow youngsters last season in getting a win on Tour. I think Hovland has a great chance to get his first this week at Greenbrier.

John “Davey” McWaters – I’m going with Viktor Hovland this week. He narrowly missed out on his Tour card right at the end of the season and had to go through the Korn Ferry gauntlet to ensure he received status for the 2019-2020 season. I think he plays with a vengeance this week and joins fellow Oklahoma State teammate Matthew Wolff as a first-time winner on Tour.

Sunjae Im – 25/1

Ben Criswell – The only rookie to qualify for the Tour Championship has matured since the 2019 season ended (three weeks ago). With his status secured for 2020, it’s time for Sunjae to start chasing wins and get his first at Greenbrier.

Bubba Watson – 28/1

Kasey Kuhrts – I’m going with Bubba. In the opening event of a new season, with no previous stats to go off, how does one make a pick? You take the two-time Masters champ. Bubba could take advantage of a decent, but not a star-studded field in this opening weekend of the 2019-20 season!

Hans Geevers – Bubba Watson has had some success at the Greenbrier in the past. I think he opens the new season with a win!

West Valentine – I think Bubba channels his inner Sam Snead and carves up the mountain course. The layout is traditional here, but I think the course sets up well for a bomb and gouge approach. That’s Bubba.

Cameron Smith – 40/1

Matt Coles – Let’s go for Cameron Smith this week! Start the season off with a bang!

Robert Streb – 66/1

Bill Felber – I’ll take Robert Streb. Three reasons…

  1. Literally anybody could win, so why not him?.
  2. He has played well at the Greenbrier before, with two runner-up finishes.
  3. I like him.

Billy Hurley III – 250/1
