France’s Victor Perez is the 2019 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship winner after he managed to edge out Matthew Southgate in the final round at St. Andrews.

The pair had come into the day in a tie for the lead and were in the final group together. Victor Perez carded a two-under-par 70 to win his first European Tour title.

At the halfway stage, Southgate had the lead, thanks to a run of four birdies in five holes before the turn. However, a couple of bogeys on the closing stretch added to a Perez birdie on 14, saw the lead swap hands, with the Frenchman securing the title with a par on the 72nd hole of the event.

Perez finished on a score of -22, with Southgate a shot back. Two off the eventual winner were the pair of Paul Waring and Joakim Lagergren who both started and finished the final day inside the top five.

Among the group in a tie for 5th were Tommy Fleetwood and Tom Lewis. The two Englishman both carded 64’s on Sunday, the low round of the day, as they both shot up into the top five.

Also in that group were another two Englishman in Jordan Smith and the halfway leader Matthew Jordan, and Korea’s Jeunghun Wang.

Callum Shinkwin and Luke Donald finished in a tie for 10th, making it eight English players inside the top ten in Scotland this week. The leading Scot, Richie Ramsay, also finished in that tie, along with Italy’s Andrea Pavan and American Tony Finau.

British Open champion Shane Lowry ended the tournament five shots back from the eventual winner, alongside Matt Wallace, Tyrrell Hatton, and Eddie Pepperell, while Rory McIlroy finished seven back, alongside last week’s BMW PGA winner Danny Willett and two-time British Open champion Padraig Harrington.

In the team’s pro-am championship, Tommy Fleetwood and his playing partner Ogden Phipps lifted the title with a combined score of -39. The pair just pipped out the McIlroy father-son partnership, who had a putt on the 18th to win it.

The European Tour continues with the Mutuactivos Open de Espana, which begins on Thursday at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
