Next up on the PGA Tour is a tournament you are familiar with, albeit in a new location on the calendar. The Houston Open at the Golf Club of Houston.

This tournament used to be a huge marker during the PGA Tour season. The Houston Open previously was the final tournament before the Masters, providing players who had not yet qualified one final shot to try and make it to Augusta.

So it went from 2007 to 2018. If you haven’t been keeping up, you may have been surprised when you didn’t see it on the schedule last season. That is because it has been moved to the fall section of the PGA Schedule.

Not only that, but this will be the last time that the Houston Open is played at the Golf Club of Houston. Starting next season, this tournament will be moving over to the Memorial Park Golf Course.

More from Pro Golf Now

We will try and make it two weeks in a row with a winner. That’s right. We had our first winner of the season last week, as West Valentine increased his lead in staff picks by correctly choosing Kevin Na to win the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Brandon Raper was on his heels all weekend with a pick of Patrick Cantlay, but Na prevailed, in the end, getting West the win.

The trend continues with these fall events with a less than a stellar field. We have still had some great golf this season so far, from Joaquin Niemann to Sebastian Munoz to Cameron Champ to Kevin Na, all providing excitement.

Will it continue for a fifth straight week? We sure hope so. We look to continue our own little streak of picking a winner and get down to the Pro Golf Now staff picks to win the Houston Open.

Henrik Stenson – 9/1

Brandon Raper – I’m going to run with a veteran in the Houston Open’s new placement on the schedule – 43-year-old Henrik Stenson.

I know he just got rid of the beloved 3-wood in his bag that was arguably one of the most dangerous weapons in professional golf, but I still think he’s got plenty of game in the other 13 clubs (and the sparkly new Epic Flash 3-wood that replaced the Diablo Octane Tour) to get back in the winner’s circle for the first time since the Wyndham Championship in 2017. He’s closer than people think, and he’s had some great finishes in Houston over the years.

Brian Harman – 22/1

Kasey Kurhts – This week I like Brian Harman. Brian has had a strong start to the season, finishing T3, T14, and T18 in his three starts this season. He is one of the most recognizable names in the field, as well as one of the highest-ranked players in the field. I think Brian could put together a good week and grab an early win this season!

Daniel Berger – 22/1

Hans Geevers – Berger has outstanding previous results at the Houston Open. In his last four appearances at this event, Berger has not finished outside the top 25! Additionally, Berger arrives at this event with two consecutive top 23 finishes to start the new season.

Cameron Champ – 22/1

Bill Felber – Cameron Champ, he is a good October player.

Scottie Scheffler – 30/1

Chris O’Day – I know that I picked him a few weeks ago to win, but I am going to go with him again. He started off the season hot with a T-7th and a T-16th. Coming off being named the Korn Ferry Tour Player of the Year for last season (and Rookie of the Year), I think he rides that high into the Houston Open and takes home the win. Look for him to finish around -18.

Russell Knox – 40/1

West Valentine – As you may recall, I told you last week that Kevin Na would win at -21 under. He won at -22. Don’t ever expect that kind of prognosticating again.

Na was 66-1 odds last week. My pick this week has better odds but might sound like a longer shot. Russell Knox will win. Why? The Houston course has a ton of water in play and Knox is one of the most accurate drivers on Tour. I expect him to play steady if unspectacular golf – ending with a victory at -16 under. His putter returns and he takes the big check home.

Luke List – 50/1

Eric Sedransk – Luke List coming in at -20 for the win.

Beau Hossler – 50/1

Richie Randolph – Beau Hossler

Lucas Bjerregaard – 80/1

Matt Coles – I will go for Lucas Bjerregaard for the win this week! Rep the Europeans on the PGA TOUR!

Rhein Gibson – 200/1

Kathy Bissell – Rhein Gibson

There you have it. West is going for back-to-back correct picks, while other members of the staff look to dethrone him. Best of luck to everyone this week on the PGA Tour at the Houston Open.
