European Tour Fantasy Golf: 2019 Open de France DraftKings picks
By Hans Geevers
This week, the European Tour presents the fantasy golf community with the Open de France. This tournament is played on one of the most historic courses in golf, Le Golf National in Paris, France.
Before I dive into my European Tour Draftkings picks for the Open de France, let’s take a quick look at the golf course the field will play this week and the key statistics I will be focusing on for this tournament.
The 2019 Open de France will be played at Le Golf National. This course is a par 71 that measures approximately 7,245 yards. This track features tight fairways and undulating greens. The golf course also has six water hazards.
It should be noted that due to daylight issues in France this time of year, the field for this event is only 120 golfers. This event will have the traditional cut after two rounds as well.
It also has to be said that this event was one of the premier events on the European Tour prior to this year. However, this year, the event is offering significantly less prize money and is no longer a Rolex series event.
Due to the factors that I just mentioned, this tournament has not attracted the quality of field that it has in previous years. Keep that in mind as you compose your fantasy golf player pools for DraftKings fantasy golf contests.
In my opinion, to succeed at Le Golf National, a golfer will need to pound greens in regulation and have the ability perform at a high level around the greens. If you want a master class here, just look back a year to the 2018 Ryder Cup dismantling of the United States by Team Europe.
The key statistics I will be focusing on for this event are GIR (greens in regulation), driving accuracy, bogey avoidance, and scrambling.
Let’s shift our focus to my DraftKings fantasy golf player picks for this week!
Joost Luiten $10,200
Luiten has been a consistent performer at Le Golf National over the course of his career. That is of high importance for me this week as I compile my player selections for Draftkings contests.
Let’s take a quick look at Luiten’s prior history at the Open de France. Joost has played the Open de France seven times. In that seven tournament span, he has made the cut in six of those events. Additionally, he has two top 18 finishes in his last three Open de France events.
I mentioned earlier in this article that the field for this year’s Open de France is relatively weak. This of course has not been the norm for the Open de France. This tournament has traditionally had an elite field of talent prior to this year.

Where am I going with the differences in talent level this year compared to others as it relates to Joost? Well, I just noted earlier that Luiten has a rather consistent record at the Open de France. Luiten has always competed against an elite field at the Open de France. That won’t be the case this week. I think Luiten can easily win this event based on the weak field he will be facing.
As far as current form goes, Joost checks that box as well. Luiten has made the cut in his last six events on the European Tour. Additionally, he has three top 25 finishes in those six tournaments.
I indicated earlier in this article that I strongly believe that hitting greens in regulation at Le Golf National is imperative if a golfer wants to have a chance to win this week. Well, Luiten can certainly do that! Luiten currently ranks second on the European Tour for GIR. So far in 2019, Joost has hit 74.54% of his greens in regulation. That is clearly outstanding.
If you are looking for additional golfers to complete your lineups I also like the following players to make the cut and possibly top 20 this week.
Ryan Fox $8,200
He finished 18th at last week’s Italian Open. Fox also finished sixth at the 2017 Open de France.
Ashley Chesters $7,500
Chesters currently ranks third on the European Tour in driving accuracy. He has three top 21 finishes in his last five European Tour events.
Soren Kjeldsen $7,500
He finished 25th in last week’s Italian Open, a strong bounce back from a missed cut at the Alfred Dunhill Links.
James Morrison $7,300
Morrison finished second at the 2015 Open de France. He also finished fourth at the KLM Open in September.
Per Langfors $6,200
After missing his first ten cuts of the 2019 season, Langfors has made four of his last five cuts on the European Tour. He finished 28th at the Porsche European Open in September.
