In a dominating performance, Justin Thomas won this week’s PGA Tour event, the CJ Cup.

Justin Thomas was able to put together a very convincing week on the PGA Tour in South Korea during the CJ Cup and came away with a win, shooting -20 this week.

Thomas led or co-led after the second and third rounds during this week’s event, leaving little doubt that he is ready to go the 2020 PGA Tour season.

After an opening-round 68 that saw him sitting in T-9th place, Justin Thomas came out hot on day two and gave the rest of the field little chance to challenge him. A 63 put him two shots up, and he didn’t relinquish the lead from there out.

Danny Lee made it interesting after shooting a 68 during the third round and found himself tied with Justin Thomas heading into the final round. It wasn’t enough though, as a finishing round 67 by Thomas would get him the win by two strokes over Lee.

All throughout the final round, there was no doubt that the winner of the CJ Cup was going to be either Justin Thomas or Danny Lee. No one was able to gain any real ground on the two, as Lee finished three strokes clear of third place.

Hideki Matsuyama tried to put together a run and was able to do just enough to jump into a T-3rd place finish. A 65 pushed him up the leaderboard and ended up netting him just north of half a million dollars in winnings. Seven Birdies and no bogeys are quite a nice way to end a tournament.

Jhonattan Vegas had the best final-round score this week, shooting 63. The front nine looked much cleaner for Vegas with five birdies and four pars. The back nine was easily more interesting though. He ended with two bogeys, two birdies, and two eagles, going out with style. It got him to -10 on the week, a huge jump for Vegas who was only -1 through the first three rounds.

On the opposite end where Emiliano Grillo and Collin Morikawa. Both entered the final round at -9. With a round like Matsuyama, they could’ve made it into the top five. Instead, Grillo shot 73 and finished T-26th, where Morikawa shot 75 and finished T-36th. Especially disappointing for Morikawa considering he shot 65 during the third round, and had a shot at putting together an impressive two-round finish.

With the win by Justin Thomas, he nets 500 FedEx Cup points. He also brings home a very nice $1.755 million. Not bad for a week on the PGA Tour. It’s been a good year so far for him through the two events that he has played. A few weeks ago, Thomas finished T-4th at the Safeway Open and has now made over $2 million already this year.

That makes it four top-four finishes in a row for Thomas. He won the BMW Championship, finished T-3rd in the Tour Championship, T-4th at the Safeway, and has now won the CJ Cup. Even going back further, Thomas went T-11th, T-12th, and T-12th in his three prior events. Quite the seven-event stretch.

Although it’s early, Justin Thomas definitely looks like the player that everyone will be chasing on the PGA Tour this season. He is putting together a fantastic stretch of golf, and is an early favorite for the FedEx Cup, even if it is 10 months away.
