The early part of the PGA tour season can get lost the shuffle of the other sports events going on simultaneously. If you have been locked in on the NFL season, the MLB playoffs, or the start of the NHL or NBA season’s I’ll update you on someone who’s off to a fantastic start to the season, Hideki Matsuyama.

Hideki Matsuyama has played five official, and one unofficial events so far this season. If you throw out his first event, which was the Safeway Open, where he was cut, his worst finish in the other five events combined was a tie for 16th at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

The Safeway and Shriners were his first two events of the season. He took the week of the Houston Open off to travel and get ready for the CJ Cup in Korea. A fantastic final round of 65 at the CJ catapulted Hideki into a tie for third place at the end of the tournament. That finish saw him jump 56 spots in the early FedEx Cup standings.

The following day Hideki Matsuyama competed in the MGM Resorts the Challenge: Japan Skins event alongside Tiger, Rory and Jason Day. Although Hideki would finish 4th in the four-person event, he still picked up $20,000 and kicked off the great week he would have at the ZOZO Championship.

All four of Hideki’s rounds at the ZOZO were sub 68, which put him in a battle with the GOAT, Tiger Woods, throughout the entire tournament. Although Tiger ending up winning the tournament Hideki Matsuyama finished in solo second after an incredible showing in front of his home country.

Hideki took his hot streak into the WGC-HSBC Champions event this past weekend in China and once again showed strong. If it wasn’t for a first-round 75 Hideki would have likely found himself in contention at the end of the weekend. His rounds of 67,68,67 in the final three days of the tournament were good enough to earn him a tie for 11th at the end of the weekend, moving him into 8th in the FedEx Cup standings.

Hideki has already earned over $1.8 million in official money this season, which isn’t too bad for just over a month’s work. As the PGA Tour doesn’t have an event scheduled this upcoming week Hideki will have to put a hold on his current hot streak.
