Draftkings is offering fantasy golf contests for the President’s Cup for the first time. Let’s take a look at this event from a fantasy golf perspective!

Before I get into my Draftkings/fantasy golf player selections for the President Cup let’s take a look at the golf course the field will contend with this week and briefly discuss the rules for the new Draftkings Presidents Cup contest.

The 2019 Presidents Cup will be played at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club. This course is a par 71 that measures 7,055 yards. This golf course is somewhat exposed to the elements. If the wind gets going, it will definitely make scoring that much harder for the golfers.

The rules for the Draftkings Presidents Cup contest focuses on a scoring system where matches and holes won are pivotal to your lineup’s success. Of course, the more traditional classic Draftkings contests focus on birdies, eagles, bogeys, etc. with regard to scoring. That is not the case this week.

You will have $50,000 to utilize on six golfers from either the American or International team. However, one of those golfers will be designated as your captain. The captain of your lineup will accumulate 1.5 times the standard Draftkings points value. Additionally, your captain will cost 1.5 times his normal cash value.

The remaining five golfers in your lineup will receive the standard Draftkings points value. Having stated that, it is highly important that you identify the correct golfer as your captain if you hope to take down a Draftkings contest this week.

If you have additional questions regarding the President Cup DFS rules I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

Let’s not waste any more time! Here is my fantasy golf/Draftkings player picks for the Presidents Cup!

Captain: Patrick Reed $11,700

Yes, I know what you are thinking. How can you take a guy that has so much controversy surrounding him as he gets ready to play the Presidents Cup? Well, Patrick Reed, love him or hate him, thrives on being a villain. I think Reed will perform at a very high level this week. In my opinion, the issue that occurred at the Hero World Challenge will fuel him to play better.

Additionally, most golf fans know that Reed is an outstanding match play golfer. I certainly won’t forget his defeat of Rory McIlroy at the 2016 Ryder Cup.

I also like the fact that Reed arrives in Melbourne playing rather good golf. He won a FedEx Cup playoff event (2019 Northern Trust)  in August, finished eighth at the WGC-HSBC Champions in October, and finally, he finished 10th at the Turkish Airlines Open in November.

I also like Reed due to the fact he only costs my lineup a price of $11,700 as captain. Remember, your captain costs 1.5 times his normal cash value. Sliding in Reed as the captain provides my lineup cost flexibility, which I think is outstanding.

Xander Schauffele $10,200

In my opinion, Xander sets up nicely as a golfer that can perform at a high level at a team event. Additionally, I like the fact that Xander has shown that he can win on a big stage. For me, his win at the 2017 Tour Championship is proof of that ability.

Louis Oosthuizen $9,200

I think the 2010 Open Champion is highly motivated to play for the International team. I fully expect that Louis will play outstanding in Australia this week.

Tiger Woods $8,400

I am going to take a chance on the 2019 Masters champion. You may ask what do I mean by taking a chance? Well, Tiger is more than a player at this event. He is also the captain of the American team. I am somewhat concerned that Tiger will cut back on playing matches due to his duties as captain. His lack of playing would be a problem for my Draftkings lineup. However, I just can’t fade him regardless of my minor concern. I think Tiger has a great chance to shine this week.

Matt Kuchar $5,200

For my next selection, I am rolling with Matt Kuchar. I recognize that Kuchar’s career in team events has not been outstanding. However, my gut tells me that Kuchar plays well in Australia. I also like Kuchar’s Draftkings price of only $5,200.

Abraham Ancer $5,000

I have a feeling that Ancer will get overlooked by many in the DFS community this week. I think that is a mistake. Ancer won the 2018 Australian Open, so clearly he likes playing in this part of the world. He also has been playing some outstanding golf lately. He has two consecutive top-eight finishes on the PGA Tour.
