The 2019 edition of the FanSided 250 rankings have come out. There is only one entry in the golf world on the list, and it’s the man we all expected. Tiger Woods.

On the morning of December 10th, FanSided came out with their FanSided 250 rankings. Things are a little different this year, as it is more about the buzz created by said entrant during the year. It makes sense that Tiger Woods would finish as high as he did, coming in at #23.

If you want to see more of how the scores are calculated, there is a nice explanation on the site.

As I was going through the list, I was thinking to myself “I wonder if there are going to be any golf-related entrants here?” Luckily, there was one. Unfortunately, there was only one.

It was Tiger Woods though, which definitely makes sense. Especially when you look at the year that he was able to put together.

It started off back in April at The Masters. There are a ton of people out there that love Tiger Woods still. Myself included. Heck, he was the reason I got into golf. The days are gone, though, where he was the favorite at every event. Heading into the Masters, many wondered if we would ever see Tiger win another major.

Well, he did. What made it even more impressive was that he didn’t look completely dominant. There were holes that he struggled on and a lot of great golfers around him on the leaderboard.

Woods was able to come through in the end though, winning by one.

It wouldn’t be his only win of 2019… well, of the calendar year. His win at the Zozo Championship is technically part of the 2020 PGA Tour season. Still, it made for a nice year for Tiger Woods.

Then you need to look at legacy. That is a part of these rankings. You could argue that no one active has a bigger one than Tiger. Maybe LeBron, may Tom Brady, maybe Serena Williams. Tiger is still going strong though, and you could argue that his legacy is stronger than anyone else’s. It’s a strong factor in him being ranked so high.

The buzz around Tiger is always high as well. Anytime he is in a tournament, it’s always one of the main talking points. Pair that with him just having held the Hero World Championship (his own special tournament), as well as being a player-captain at the Presidents Cup, and the buzz-worthiness of Tiger is as high as it has been for the last 6-7 years.

I would make the argument that Tiger Woods is probably slotted correctly at #23. It’s hard to make a case that he should be higher than the likes of the USWNT, Liverpool, the Yankees, or Stranger Things.

Then again, he is TIGER WOODS! There are few things out there that draw more attention than he does. The golf world stops whenever he makes a charge, especially at a major. Heck, the whole world seems to notice when he is at the top of the leaderboard. As with most lists, you could make the argument that timing is everything. The Masters was around eight months ago. If the list came out sooner to when the tournament completed, he would likely be in a different spot.

That being said, I agree with where he ended up. Gotta keep the bosses happy, right?
