Watching Tiger Woods dominate at the Presidents Cup really boils down to one word. It was… fun.
I am fairly sure that there are a lot of people out there in the same boat as I am. We grew up on Tiger Woods. He is the reason we got into golf. During the opening days match at the Presidents Cup staring the GOAT, I felt like a kid again.
I wasn’t even ten yet when Tiger Woods came on the scene. I was born in 1988, so around the same time that I really started getting into sports and can start remembering, clearly at least, sporting events in my life, Tiger came around at the same time.
That was how I grew up. Watching Tiger Woods, week in and week out, or so it seemed, dominating on the golf course. Causing people watching him to sit in awe, wondering what kind of great shot he was going to hit next. Heck, you could even see it in the people he was playing with. They were professional golfers, but they weren’t on the same level as Tiger. Sometimes, it didn’t even seem like the same rules applied to them.

Then, the incident occurred. Between injuries and outside events, the Tiger Woods we knew was no more. We all wondered if Tiger would ever be back. Would he be able to regain that dominance, the awe-inspiring moments where he would hold the golf world, or at the peak of his prowess, the world in his hands.
We saw a glimpse of it last April during The Masters. It was the first major for Tiger Woods in a long time and was something many of us thought we would never see again.
I don’t know if it is because the Presidents Cup is a small group of guys. Maybe it is the heads-up style of play that Four-Ball entails. Whatever it was, Tiger seemed like he had “it” again.
On twitter yesterday, I kept noticing people posting something along the lines of “Tiger has got to chip it in here, right?” Over and over it seemed. Just a constant barrage of thought that Eldrick was going to start making incredible shots.
Then… this happened.

That’s not an easy lie. Nor is it an easy shot. Then again, we aren’t Tiger Woods.
All throughout the rest of the day, Tiger continued to hit good shots. Like when he got stuck on a bunker next to a greenside-bunker. I think that’s the best way to explain it.

I don’t know about you, but I know plenty of people that struggle out of bunkers in general. Then, on pro-level greens, and having to knock it over another bunker as well? Not a problem for the GOAT.
You may be thinking “okay, so he hit those two shots… how many holes did he actually win?”
Six. Tiger won six holes. That’s pretty incredible.
Justin Thomas won two on his own, but Tiger did the majority of the heavy lifting throughout the round. Tiger put some nice finish on the day as well, winning three of the last five holes, to help his group get the lone win of the day, 4&3. or “4UP”. I like the old school scoring notation better.
What else did you expect watching him? He is Tiger Woods. At least for one day, Tiger Woods was back, and I felt like a kid again. It was plain ol’ clean fun. Pure and simple.
