2019 was the year of the breakout golfer. There were a ton of first-time winners, and youngsters making their presence felt on the PGA Tour. Look for one more to join in 2020, and his name is Scottie Scheffler.

Scottie Scheffler has had a good start to the season but has been overshadowed by a lot of new winners on tour. Not only that, but anyone looking to breakout had to deal with the likes of Matthew Wolff, Viktor Hovland, and Joaquin Niemann, among many others.

Scheffler, who comes from a strong line of golfers to come from the University of Texas, is showing that he deserves to be in the conversation of the best young golfers on tour.

Although he has yet to find the winners circle, Scottie Scheffler had already taken home nearly $900,000 this season throughout only 25% of the season has been completed.

It all started off with a T-7th at the Greenbrier… where he was overshadowed by Joaquin Niemann crushing the field, where he won by six strokes. Scheffler shot a 62 on the second day on route to a -13 for the week, only two shots back of second place.

He would play well again the following week when he finished T-16th at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Again, he was overshadowed by another 21-year-old, as Sung Jae Im found himself in a playoff, albeit one that he would lose to Sebastian Munoz.

His best tournament of the year would come at the beginning of November when he took part in the Bermuda Championship, which was an alternate event that was being played at the same time that the WGC-HSBC Champions was being played. He came out hot, shooting his second round of 62 on the season. HE would cool off a bit, finishing 69-69-66 to finish T-3rd.

He has played well in the two tournaments since then as well. He finished T-18th at the Mayakoba, and then played quite well at the RSM Classic, where he would finish T-5th.

It looks like Scottie Scheffler is ready to dominate in 2020, and is well on his way to finding his first career victory. He has played a lot of strong golf in the fall swing of the new season, and should come out firing once the season resumes.

I expect him to be around for quite a while, and at only 23, he has a lot of prime golf ahead of him.
