Brooks Koepka makes return to golf at Abu Dhabi Championship
Brooks Koepka has announced that he will be returning from a three-month layoff, and will be playing golf once again, teeing off at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
It’s been a while since we last saw Brooks Koepka on a golf course. That’s going to change when he heads East for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. He has been committed to the event for quite a while but confirmed that he will indeed be playing there.
It was uncertain when he was going to make his next event, as he has been recovering from a knee injury since undergoing a procedure at the end of August. He had a partially torn patella tendon, undergoing stem-cell to try and fix the issue.
All seemed fine, as Brooks Koepka was able to play in October, less than six weeks after the procedure. He would tee it up at the Shriners, but miss the cut. Then, while playing at the CJ Cup, he slipped during the second round.

He felt pain in his repaired knee and would withdraw after that round. That was the last competitive golf that he played.
There was a thought that he was going to be able to play in the Presidents Cup, as he was originally scheduled to be on the roster of the US side. He withdrew from that, focusing on the 2020 PGA season and getting healthy. It looked like the US side sorely missed him, but they ended up doing alright.
It looks like he is going to be playing a few events on the European Tour before making it back to the USA. First is this one, and then at the end of the month, he is currently scheduled to play in the Saudi International event as well.
It’s nice seeing Brooks Koepka on the mend. Personally, I worry that he might not be all the way back to a full and clean bill of health. One of the most common occurrences that we see from young athletes with a highly competitive drive is their coming back too soon from an injury.
You don’t see it as often in golf, but Koepka’s mix of build, athleticism, and golf talent is a combo that hasn’t really been seen in the golf world before. Tiger has some instances where he would come back too soon from injury, and it would cause him further problems that only ended up delaying a full return.
That’s what I worry about with Koepka. That his knee is only 80%, and that he is going to be pushing the envelope with an early return. Then again, the guy is a beast. He’s probably fine. For the sake of golf fans everywhere, I sure hope he is.
