This week, the PGA Tour travels to California for The American Express! Let’s take a look at this event from a fantasy golf perspective.

Before I get into my fantasy golf and Draftkings player picks let’s discuss the format for this tournament and look at the key statistics that I will be focusing on for this week’s PGA Tour event.

This week’s American Express is a pro-am tournament that will take place on three different golf courses over a four day period. The golf courses the field will play this week are La Quinta Country Club, PGA West Tournament Course, and the PGA West TPC Stadium Course.

The entire field will play all three courses over the course of the first three days of competition. The final round will occur on the PGA West TPC Stadium Course.

Key facts: A score of 20 under par or better has won the American Express every year since 2007. The traditional cut of the top 65 players and ties will occur after the third round of competition rather than the second round which is the case in most golf tournaments on the PGA Tour.

The key statistics that I am focusing on this week are GIR (greens in regulation), birdie or better percentage and strokes gained approach.

Now let’s shift our focus to what I love doing the most! Here are my fantasy golf/Draftkings player selections for the American Express!

Charles Howell III $10,100

Charles Howell III has been playing very consistent and quality golf since the start of the new PGA Tour season in September. Let’s take a look at some of Howell III’s results this season to shed light on his outstanding play. He finished fourth at the Safeway Open in September, eighth at the ZOZO Championship in October, 20th at the Mayakoba Golf Classic in November, and finally he finished 12th at last week’s Sony Open.

Howell III also checks the box for me when it comes to event form as well. Charles has played the American Express ten times since 2009. It should be noted that Howell III made the cut in all ten of those events. Additionally, in that same ten event span of his play, Howell III had an impressive five top 20 finishes.

Brendan Steele $7,500

He finished runner up to Cameron Smith in last week’s Sony Open in Hawaii.  Additionally, Steele finished sixth at the 2017 American Express.

Daniel Berger $7,500

Berger is currently ranked 33rd on the PGA Tour in birdie or better percentage (24.69%). He finished 17th at the ZOZO Championship in October.

Nick Taylor $7,000

Nick Taylor is currently ranked 15th on the PGA Tour in GIR (greens in regulation-75.69%). He also finished tenth at the Safeway Open in September.

Peter Malnati $6,600

He finished 18th at the 2019 American Express tournament. Malnati finished 12th at the Sony Open last week.

Cameron Davis $6,900

Davis arrives at this week’s event on the heels of a ninth-place finish at last week’s Sony Open. He also has shown that he can perform well at the American Express in the past. Davis finished 28th at last year’s American Express.

Next. Pete Dye was a genius and visionary who will continue to influence golf. dark

As always, good luck with fantasy golf this week. Enjoy watching The American Express!
