Congratulations to Sungjae Im on another successful shift at the top-10 factory.

The 21-year-old South Korean fired 67-66-69-68 to finish T-10 at last week’s American Express. It was the reigning PGA Tour Rookie of the Year’s third top-10 of the 2019-2020 season. He came close to the title at the Sanderson Farms Championship where he lost a playoff.

His last four finishes have been T-21 or better.

Im’s on pace to pull in a victory sooner or later. His odds ought to be increasing now that he’s seeing courses for the second time.

His first time around Torrey Pines resulted in a T-52 finish (72-68-72-72). Usually, four rounds of par or better would pocket you more money at the Farmers Insurance Open, but conditions were rather benign like they look to be in 2020.

Im isn’t crazy long (65th, 315.9) but he’s got enough distance to allow his iron game to give him plenty of chances on the greens. Im was sixth on Tour in strokes gained putting (1.806).

He had an uncharacteristically poor putting week on Torrey’s grainy greens. Putting is an area best helped by having experience on your side.

I like Im’s greens book to be a little more detailed, and his scorecard filled with more circles. Rack up another top 10 for Sungjae.
