As the PGA Tour gets back to the Continental US, it’s time to check in on the updated FedEx Cup Standings.

The PGA Tour feels like it is picking up steam, as the events on the horizon are set to have some pretty big names. Before we get there, let’s take a look at the FedEx Cup standings, and see who has taken advantage so far in the 2019-2020 season.

We’ve talked about it all year. These early-season events cannot be overlooked. Even if the talent in the field seems low, it turns out to be a great opportunity for the players who do show up to earn some much needed FedEx Cup points and improve on their positioning in the standings.

Last year, around 375 points were enough to get you into the playoffs, as the top 125 make it there. That means that the 300 points that Abraham Ancer just earned by finishing in second place at The American Express are almost enough to get him a spot in the playoffs. For Andrew Landry, it guarantees him one after earning 500 points. Currently, he sits in 17th place.

Funny enough, the man he is just ahead of is Tiger Woods, who has played in just one event, winning the Zozo Championship and earning himself 500 points as well.

There are a handful of golfers currently in the top 15 who have yet to win this season. They have earned their way to their ranking, however, with the consistency and plethora of top ten finishes.

Sungjae Im (7th), Xander Schauffele (11th), Webb Simpson (14th), and Abraham Ancer (16th), all have three top-ten finishes. Hideki Matsuyama finished second to Tiger Woods at the Zozo for one of his two top-ten finishes and sits in 12th place. Scottie Scheffler has been hammering the top-tens and is tied for the most in golf with four, and currently is 15th in the FedEx Cup standings.

The two men to have multiple wins sit atop the leaderboard, understandably so this early on in the season. Brendon Todd, with his back-to-back wins, is in 2ns with 1041 points, which already puts him in the same position as those who finished last year in the top 45. Justin Thomas currently leads the FedEx Cup with 1162, which puts him just outside the top 30 last year. Both of these players can almost book their tickets to the Tour Championship barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Harris English is tied with Scottie Scheffler with the most top-tens, although he sits a few spots back, currently in 20th place.

A reason these early events are still important are the ability to pile up points from playing often. Look at Mark Hubbard. He has played in ten events, already earning 412 points. This should be enough to get him to the FedEx Cup playoffs, even though it is likely that most golf fans aren’t familiar with him, if they have even heard of him.
