This week, the PGA Tour travels to La Jolla, California for the Farmers Insurance Open. Let’s take a look at this event from a fantasy golf perspective!

Before I get into my fantasy golf and Draftkings player selections let’s briefly discuss some key facts regarding the Farmers Insurance Open and look at my key player statistics for this tournament.

The Farmers Insurance Open will be played at Torrey Pines. Torrey Pines has two golf courses, the North and South course. All golfers will play the South and North course in the first two rounds of the tournament. Upon completion of the second round, a cut will take place. The remaining 65 players and ties will compete on the South Course for the final two rounds.

Key Fact: No golfer has shot over par on the North course and won this event since 1983.

It is important to keep in mind that the South course is one of the longest on the PGA Tour each and every year. The South course has also historically been the most difficult of the two tracks.

Based on my review of results and statistics from previous Farmers Insurance Opens played at Torrey Pines, the following are the key statistics I will be focusing on for this week: GIR (greens in regulation), strokes gained approach, driving distance, driving accuracy and scrambling.

Here are my Draftkings/fantasy golf player selections for the Farmers Insurance Open!

Tiger Woods $10,800

The 2019 Masters Champion has won the Farmers Insurance Open an impressive seven times! Yes, I know that Tiger Woods has finished inside the top 20 in his last five Farmers Insurance Opens played. However, I am not concerned. Why is that? Well, I think we will be seeing a Tiger Woods that is fully healthy this year. Additionally, I think Woods is mentally fresh now that he has had a nice break from competitive tournament play.

Although Tiger does not play a high number of events on the PGA Tour anymore, he still arrives at this event in very good form. Woods won the ZOZO Championship in October and finished fourth at the Hero World Challenge in December.

It should also be noted that Woods played extremely well at the Presidents Cup in December. Tiger finished the Presidents Cup with a record of 3-0. The record just noted includes an impressive singles victory over Abraham Ancer on the final day of the event.

Gary Woodland $9,500

Woodland arrives at this event in outstanding form. More specifically, Woodland has four consecutive top-seven finishes on the PGA Tour. He also finished ninth at the 2019 Farmers Insurance Open.

Lanto Griffin $7,900

He has two consecutive top 13 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a seventh-place finish at the Sony Open earlier in the month. He also has performed well at Torrey Pines previously. Griffin finished 12th at the 2018 Farmers Insurance Open.

Matt Jones $7,300

Jones won the Australian Open in December. More importantly, he finished 13th at the 2019 Farmers Insurance Open.

Brendan Steele $7,100

The 36-year-old American has made the cut in six of his last seven attempts at the Farmers Insurance Open. Additionally, in that seven tournament span, he has four top 29 finishes. Steele also finished second at the Sony Open two weeks ago.

Those are my five player selections for my Draftkings lineup. If you were to use these five players in a Draftkings lineup, you would have a decent amount of cash ($7,400) left to select your sixth and final golfer for your fantasy golf lineup!
