The PGA Tour has its first star-studded field of the season this weekend as many of the top players in the world will tee it up in California starting Thursday, including a truly underrated superstar in Xander Schauffele.

Some of those players include Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and who I consider to be the most underrated player in golf today, Xander Schauffele. Most golf fans would agree Xander is one of the better players on the tour, but there is no reason he should be considered anything less than a top-five player in the sport today.

Xander started his 2019-20 season at the ZOZO Championship, where he finished in a tie for 10th. From there he went on to place second at the WGC-HSBC, followed by another tie for 10th at the Hero World Challenge, and was then a part of the winning United States Presidents Cup team.

Schauffele contributed three points to the U.S. team after winning two foursome matches paired with Patrick Cantlay and winning his solo match over Adam Scott.

Following the Presidents Cup victory, Xander finished in a tie for second at the very windy and rainy Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii in early January. So, this far into the 2019-2020 season, Schauffele hasn’t finished lower than 10th in any event he has played and has earned nearly two million dollars in just five events.

Schauffele’s hot start to the season shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, as he had nothing short of a great year in 2018-19. Xander racked up two wins last season, the WGC-HSBC and Sentry Tournament of Champions, and finished top five in two of the seasons major’s, T2 at The Masters, T3 U.S. Open.

Xander’s six top-ten finishes and 14 top 25 finishes last season helped him finish second in last season’s final FedEx Cup Standings, and he currently sits 11th in this season rankings.

There should be no denying from golf fans that Xander Schauffele is a future superstar in the game, but the future is now. I think this will be a major breakout year for Xander. Not only am I picking Xander in our staff picks article this week to win the Farmers Insurance Open, but I will be picking Xander in April to win The Masters, that’s right, you heard it here first.

At the end of the season, when Xander has multiple wins under his belt, has another top-five finish in the FedEx Cup standings, and becomes the household name that he already should be, just remember, I told you so.
