Jason Day’s resume at Pebble Beach boasts everything but a win. In 10 Pro-Am starts, he has a whopping six top-10s, including a T-2 in 2018 (69-65-69-70). Last year, the Aussie also took T-4 (65-69-72-68) and T-21 at the US Open (70-73-70-69).

The 32-year-old has never missed a cut on the Monterey Peninsula and has nine top-25s here. Day is a fan of the pro-am format. He’s even admitted to enjoying the slow rounds, which gives a more deliberate player like him to take his time between shots.

Day showed some good signs in his return to action from a back injury. He finished T-16 a couple of weeks ago at Torrey Pines. In his first start since October, Day bounced back from an opening 73 to fire 67-72-69 to salvage T-16.

Day’s greatest strength is off the tee. That part of his game will be limited as he’ll have to keep the driver in the bag on most holes. He averaged just 282.3 yards per drive at last year’s pro-am, which was 17.7 below his average.

His iron play also shined as he hit 76.39% GIR.

I’m a little dubious of how Day will fare in the cool temperatures post-injury. The 12-time Tour winner has also done most of his career damage away from the West Coast.

Still, Day stands out in a weak field at a trio of venues where he’s had great success. I like him to improve for a top-10 finish in his second appearance of 2020.
