The Waste Management Phoenix Open finished off in intense fashion, going into a playoff. Webb Simpson was able to finish off Tony Finau, winning the event on the 73rd hole.

Webb Simpson was able to finish off Tony Finau down the stretch at the Phoneix Open Sunday, although it took him an extra hole to do so. As the Super Bowl was getting ready to start, Simpson and Finau decided to bring the world of sports a little extra drama, finishing at -17 and going to a playoff to determine the winner of the Phoenix Open.

Simpson had an epic finish, as he was two shots behind Finau with two holes to go. He would birdie 17 and 18 to force a playoff. The two players would then head to the 18th hole once again to determine a winner. Simpson would keep the birdie streak going, and defeat Finau on the first playoff hole.

After great Saturday rounds by both players, Finau shot 62 and Simpson shot 64, both of them delivered much more pedestrian rounds on Sunday. Finau would shoot 70, and Simpson a 69.

It seemed like no one near the top of the leaderboard was that interested in winning the tournament, as anyone with an opportunity to put the rest of the field behind them was unable to do so.

Scott Piercy shot even, staying at -13. Adam Long shot +1 finish at -12. Byeong-Hun An shot +1 as well, finishing at -11, as did Mark Hubbard. Hudson Swafford shot +3, finishing in that same group at -11. J. B Holmes started the day in the same position as Swafford, both at -14. Holmes did the worst of the group, shooting +4 to finish at -10. For Holmes, his +4 was actually tied for the 3rd worst round of the day.

There was ample opportunity for a handful of golfers, and in the end, it ended up being Webb Simpson who was able to take home the win.

It was too little too late for some of the golfers who made it into the top ten, although they played quite well to get there. Justin Thomas and Bubba Watson had the best rounds of the day, shooting -6 and -5 respectively to end up at -14, finishing T-3rd.
