It’s a joint venture this week, as the PGA Tour and European Tour head to the WGC-Mexico Championship at Club de Golf Chapultepec.

We should be back on schedule in bringing you the golfer picks for the week for each tournament, starting this week with the WGC-Mexico. I was out of the country last week and was unable to get it together in time for the Genesis.

After bringing you Webb Simpson back at the Waste Management, we’ve managed to stay in the top five for the most recent events. Matt Coles gave you Phil Mickelson at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and I was able to get you the greatest twitter follow out there in Max Homa, who finished T-5th last week at the Genesis.

This is one of the more interesting events on Tour, especially with how early on in the calendar year it still is. Pairing the top golfers from both tours with the high altitude (~7,800 feet or ~2377 meters) means that we are going to see some great scores, great shots, and massive drives.

There’s a defining trend to this week’s picks, as nearly half of the people who took part this week are going with the same player.

Here are the staff picks to win the WGC-Mexico Championship!

Hideki Matsuyama

Richie Randolph – For the 2019-20 PGA Tour season, Hideki is 15th in Strokes Gained: Total and has racked up 3 Top 10’s in 9 starts. His putting has been abysmal (190th in Strokes Gained) but his driving, ball striking and scrambling have been terrific, and he will secure a win this week in Mexico!

Bryson DeChambeau

Kathy Bissell

Ben Criswell – Bryson DeChambeau to carry his T-5th finish at The Genesis into a win in Mexico.

Bubba Watson

Corey Klatt – Bubba has been playing well lately and looks like he is in great form this year, time for a win!

Jon Rahm

Matt Coles

West Valentine – I’m going with Rahmbo. He’s rested, he’s playing well this year, and he’s gonna win sometime this season. I also like that Jon Rahm speaks the local language so he won’t accidentally order the Ghost Pepper nachos. (I’m looking at you Bubba!)

Tommy Fleetwood

Kasey Kuhrts – I am going to go with Tommy Fleetwood this weekend in Mexico. Tommy is making his first start in North America this season and still looking for the first PGA Tour win of his career. So, why not get it done in Mexico?

Dustin Johnson

Mike Randleman – In an excerpt from Mike’s weekly power rankings

"“In the maiden WGC-Mexico in 2017, DJ fired 70-66-66-68 to finish one ahead of Tommy Fleetwood. He put on a ball striking clinic, averaging 321.8 yards off the tee and hitting 72.22% greens in regulation. His title defense resulted in a T-7. Scores of 69-66-68-69 left him just four off Phil Mickelson’s winning pace."

Johnson won again in Mexico City in 2019 thanks to 64-67-66-66. That was one of his more dominating performances to win by five over Rory McIlroy and by 10 on the rest of the field.”

Bill Felber – On the WGC Mexico, I’ll take Dustin Johnson. I always like a bomber on this course.

Connor Schmidtke – Going with the obvious pick this week. Two wins from three starts since the event moved to Mexico. Also recorded 3 Top-10 finishes to begin 2020 including one last week at the Genesis Invitational. It seems like a perfect recipe in Mexico this week for DJ.

As a bonus – taking Alex Noren at the Puerto Rico Open.

Hans Geevers

Chris O’Day – How can I not take that guy that consistently crushes it at this event. He destroys the ball, and he tears up the course as well. Who can forget the monster drive he unleashed last year at this event. I’m going with him once again to win here.

Next. Should you Listen to Music on the Golf Course? Of course!. dark

That’s gonna do it for this week. Best of luck to everyone in their picks at the WGC-Mexico Championship. If you agree with any of us or think that someone else is going to win entirely, let us know!
