The Arnold Palmer Invitational wasn’t the friendliest of tournaments for Tony Finau early in his career. He missed the cut in 2015, finished T-43 in 2016 and was T-28 in 2017. At the time, Finau was ranked 71st in the world and just beginning his ascension.

Now he’s an established talent and appears to be a mainstay on American Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup teams for the foreseeable future.

Finau came close to picking up career win No. 2 last month at the Phoenix Open where he fell to Webb Simpson in a playoff.

The 30-year-old has five worldwide top-10s since the fall and has just one missed cut since June.

While guys are cramming in a lot of golf this time of the year, Finau has taken a step back to gear up for the next month or so. He’s been on the sidelines for a couple of weeks after posting T-51 at the Genesis Invitational.

Finau has shown both touch and brawn in his game this season. He ranks sixth on Tour in strokes gained tee to green (1.712) and fourth in SG around the green (.696).

I worry about Finau coming down the stretch Sunday a course where trouble lurks around every corner. But he’s a top-10 machine who is a threat to make some eagles at Bay Hill.
