A pseudo-scientist like Bryson DeChambeau should appreciate the value of accumulating a solid sample size. He’s now got 12 rounds under his belt at Bay Hill. We’re beginning to see that this is a course he’s done fairly well at.

Most notably, the SMU alum finished solo second (67-66-72-68) at the 2018 Arnold Palmer Invitational behind Rory McIlroy (more on him later). DeChambeau played well enough to win, but a Sunday 64 for Rory swung the tournament his way. Bryson’s 15-under total would have won two of the last three years and all but three times since 2004.

DeChambeau’s made all three cuts at the API, finishing T-27 as an amateur in 2016 and T-46 in 2019. He has five rounds in the 60s.

He’s since won on the European Tour, but the 26-year-old is seeking his first PGA Tour win since the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in the fall of 2018.

DeChambeau knocked on the door in his last two starts. He finished T-5 and three shots back at the Genesis Invitational and solo second and a shot behind at the WGC-Mexico Championship. It took birdies on 15, 16 and 17 for Patrick Reed to clip DeChambeau in Mexico.

Bryson ranks 11th on Tour in strokes gained tee to green (1.253) and 21st in SG putting (581). He’s up from 34th in distance last season (302.5) to fourth (322).

DeChambeau is also third in sand saves (65.79%) and second in par-5 scoring (4.51).
