Will the prospect of reclaiming his spot as world No. 1 be enough to fire up Brooks Koepka this week?

With a win and current No. 1 Rory McIlroy finishing outside the top 10, Koepka projects to take over No. 1.

A win would be a great change of pace from the slow start BK’s gotten off to in 2020. He’s 3-for-4 in cuts made worldwide but hasn’t finished higher than a T-17 at the Saudi International on the European Tour.

He only teed it up twice in the fall and skipped the Presidents Cup to give his injured knee more time to recover.

His last start was a missed cut last week at the Honda Classic in the Jupiter resident’s backyard.

If more time off allows him to be closer to full health, we all know the talent the four-time major champ has. In 2019, he won the PGA Championship and the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

Koepka is making his fourth Arnold Palmer Invitational appearance. Fifth, if you count a withdrawal in 2015.

His top result was a T-26 (74-70-72-69) in his 2014 debut. The 29-year-old was just two shots from the cut line last year

Koepka ranked 12th in strokes gained tee to green (1.14). He’s one of the best drivers in the game when he’s on. His length can be an asset in certain spots at Bay Hill.

He was first in proximity from 175-200 yards (28’10”).
