Everyone remembers “The Match” from 2018 between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. It sounds like we may be getting round two pretty soon.

Back at the end of November in 2018, we got to see “The Match”. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson went out to play head-to-head for $9 million. Although no terms have been announced, it certainly sounds like we are getting close to seeing the sequel. According to Phil, at least.

"“Working on it… I don’t tease. I’m kinda a sure thing.”"

Phil won the first time around, so you know that a competitor like Tiger Woods and a gambler like Phil are definitely going to want to do this again.

The big complaint last time was that there wasn’t enough side action. It sounds like that was more of a declaration from the PGA Tour, as they wanted them limited. It would be nice this time around to let Tiger and Phil let loose, as you know there could be some massive wagers between the two.

It seems that there would be a simple way to watch what they were doing to make sure nothing was over the top and that the money was well spent. Put the ” Match II” on a 10-second delay, so that you can monitor and cut out anything that is too inappropriate. Then, have Tiger and Phil agree that 5% of every bet gets donated to the charity of the winner’s choice.

It seems like a win-win. You get them more involved and willing to gamble (not that you need to convince Lefty there), and some money gets raised for good causes.

People would go crazy (in a good way), if they knew they could tune-in to see a Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson re-match, with little to no constraints in the way. Especially now that the PGA Tour should have the streaming side of it figured out, people would be willing to pay a pretty penny to watch.

Last time around, it was originally scheduled to be $19.99 before the connectivity and streaming issues made it free for just about everyone. If they could figure this out, market it correctly, get some celebrities in to get involved, they could easily charge twice that.

Imagine, that during the downtimes of the players walking towards their shots, they cut over to one of the par-3 holes. You get to see celebrities, both good and bad, taking part in a little KP competition. Maybe do the same thing over on the range where they are in a long-drive contest.

Are you telling me you wouldn’t want to see J.R. Smith, Tony Romo, Richard Jefferson, or Charles Barkley out there competing in something like that? Again, make it for charity, but with a bit on the side for everyone involved. Celebrities can step-up, “donate” $1,000 bucks to the pot, where half of it goes to the winner and the other half goes to a charity.

The time of the re-match is yet to be determined. Especially with all the concerns of getting people together, it could be tough to do it anytime soon. It would be great as an opportunity to raise money, but safety and health should be paramount over anything else.
