Joel Dahmen has been on the PGA Tour since 2017. Let’s meet the stud from Washington and get to know a bit more about him.

When it comes to rooting for professional athletes, I’m always a bit partial to rooting for players that are from the same state as I am. That’s why when it comes to pro golf, I like to root for Joel Dahmen, a fellow Washingtonian.

I’ve always been a fan of Dahmen, as he is one of the more interesting players on Tour. You can occasionally find him rocking the bucket hat or a solid mustache. What really sealed it for me was hearing how he dominated during high school.

There is an event every year in Washington State called the Bill Egbers Memorial Tournament. The top high school golfers across the state, across all class sizes, are invited to the event. It’s more competitive than state tournaments as he won the end of the season tournament not just once, but twice. He would go back-to-back, winning in 2005 and 2006.

It’s quite the accomplishment for the Clarkston golfer, as it is only something that has been by two other golfers in the event’s nearly 40 year history.

To add to his high school accomplishments, Dahmen won the 3A state title his senior year in 2006, shooting 137 over 36 holes to win by two strokes. He nearly went back-to-back here as well, as he finished second by one stroke the year before in 2005. Amazingly, Joel Dahmen actually won his freshman year as well, shooting 140 behind a round two best 67, winning by one stroke.

He would stay in-state, going to the University of Washington to further his golf career. After bouncing a round a bit, Dahmen received from rough news. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2011, although he would make a full recovery. He hung out on the Mackenzie Tour for a few years, before winning the Player of the Year in 2014 and being the Order of Merit leader as well.

A move up to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2015 was followed by a jump to the big stage in 2017. It took a few events, but he found his first top ten at the Byron Nelson that year when he finished T-9th.

The shutdown has come at a rough time for Dahmen, as he has been playing some of the best golf of his PGA career. Although he is winless, it seemed like he was on the path to his first win based on how he has been playing lately. He’s had four top-ten finishes so far this year. After starting with a T-9th and a T-6th at the Shriners and the Mayakoba, respectively, Dahmen crushed it at the last two events. He finished T-5th in back-to-back events, at the Genesis and Arnold Palmer.

In his early 30’s, Joel Dahmen seems to be entering into his prime. Once the PGA Tour starts back up, he is definitely going to be someone to keep an eye on. His first win has to be right around the corner.
