The Midwest City, Oklahoma, native graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2014. He turned pro after that and spent the 2015 season playing on the Mackenzie Tour. He finished that season in 17th place on the tour’s Order of Merit, and was able to move up to 15th on that same list the following season.
Gooch moved to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2017, where he found even more professional success. He earned a win at the News Sentinel Open, and added four additional top 10s to place sixth on the Korn Ferry Tour’s money list, earning his PGA Tour card.
During his rookie season on the big tour, Gooch had 27 starts, making 12 cuts and notching five top-five finishes. His tie for 13th at the Wells Fargo Championship was his best finish during the 2018 season.
In 2019, Gooch moved up another level on the success ladder. He finished 101st in the FedEx Cup standings, making the playoffs for the first time. His best finish was a tie for third at the Farmers Insurance Open, one week after finishing fourth at the Desert Classic.
The 2020 season started slowly for Gooch, but he seemed to find his footing at the Houston Open in October. There, the 28-year-old finished in a tie for fourth place, which moved him from 132nd to 38th in the FedEx Cup standings.
His second top 10 of the season came in February at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. There, Gooch tied for 10th place.
Gooch has found a rhythm this season, making 12 of 13 cuts so far. If he can keep that kind of consistency, he has a very bright future ahead of him on the PGA Tour.
