PGA Tour Wise in Taking the Lead, Re-Starting 2020 Season
By Tim Letcher
According to reports, the PGA Tour is making plans to re-start its season. Find out more about when and where the tour will start playing here.
The PGA Tour may be taking the lead in getting the country, and the world, back to normal. According to a report from Golf Digest’s Brian Wacker, the tour is set to re-start its season June 11-14 at Colonial, according to Wacker’s sources.
While Major League Baseball, the NBA and others have discussed re-starting their leagues, the PGA Tour seems to be the only one, at this point, ready to pull the trigger and move forward. This would be a very important step for the tour and one that would put golf in the forefront of the sporting world.

Sports fans around the world are extremely eager for sports, any sports, to get started again after all sports were shut down in mid-March due to the coronavirus. If the PGA Tour can be the first league to start back, it will be a big boost to the tour, in addition to being a welcome sight for those sports fans.
The tour could benefit from being the first to start back for a couple of reasons. First, if golf is the only game in town, in other words the only league that’s playing, the tour could draw a ton of new fans. That could be beneficial initially, especially since the tour is likely to play its first few events without any fans in attendance.
Secondly, the advertising dollars that generally go to other sports could find their way onto the PGA Tour, which would be a big boost. While the tour has a number of great sponsors, the opportunity to bring in even more revenue could be huge to the tour moving forward.
Sure, there will be changes when the tour returns. In addition to having no fans in attendance, there are likely to be players who are wearing masks. There will be particular rules about touching flag sticks, rakes and other items that multiple people touch during a round. But the tour seems to be ready to implement these changes, and it’s likely that every player will be on board.
As the nation, and the world, hunger for sports, the PGA Tour is making a wise move to re-start its season. It’s a move that will be beneficial to the tour in the long run.
