By Tim Letcher
A backloaded PGA Tour schedule should provide fans and golfers with a lot of excitement. Find out more about the schedule here.
On Thursday, the PGA Tour officially announced its schedule for the remainder of 2020 season. And it’s clear that there are two distinct parts to the slate.
The schedule starts slowly, beginning with the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial June 11-14. The RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links follows, June 18-21. Then the Travelers Championship will be played from June 25-28.

Ho hum. Not much there, except for the fact that the tour will be starting back. That’s really the only excitement about the early part of the schedule.
The Rocket Mortgage Classic and the John Deere Classic follow before we get to the first true notable event of the reschedule, the Memorial, which will be played July 16-19. That tournament, hosted by Jack Nicklaus, always draws an outstanding field, and it will no doubt do so again this year.
And that’s where the schedule ramps up. After the Memorial, the 3M Open will be played July 23-26, followed by the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis July 30-August 2.
The following week will have the season’s first major, the PGA Championship, at Harding Park in San Francisco Aug. 6-9. The Wyndham Championship follows just before the beginning of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Those playoffs get underway at the Northern Trust Open in Boston Aug. 20-23, followed by the BMW Championship outside of Chicago Aug. 27-30. The Tour Championship will be held over Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-7.
And while the regular season generally ends with the playoffs, this year will be much different. As soon as the playoffs end, the fun really begins.
The U.S. Open has been rescheduled for Sept. 17-20, followed by the Ryder Cup the following week. Later in the fall, the World Golf Championships-HSBC Championships will be held in Shanghai, China, Oct. 29-Nov. 1. After the Houston Open, the Masters finds a new spot in the schedule, being held Nov. 12-15.
The new PGA schedule starts with a whimper but ends with a bang. Golf fans will have to be willing to accept tournament in new slots on the schedule and for those who do, this season could be a ton of fun.
