Adam Scott has proven he can play with the best golfers in the world. Can he win the 2020 FedEx Cup?

Adam Scott has had a career with its share of ups and downs. When Scott has been good, he’s been among the world’s best. But when he’s been down, he can fall off the radar just as quickly as he rose to prominence.

Scott, who is now (amazingly) 39 years old has 14 career PGA Tour victories. Included in those is a title at the Players Championship in 2004 and a green jacket at the Masters in 2013.

The Australian has had a wild variety of finishes in his FedEx Cup playoff career. Scott has finished anywhere from fourth to 110th during the previous 13 years. His high finish of fourth happened in 2013 and 2016. During both of those seasons, he had two PGA Tour victories.

Scott finished sixth in the FedEx Cup standings last season despite not having a tour victory. What he did have was a total of nine top 10s, including two second-place finishes. Those came at the Memorial and at the Farmers Insurance Open. Riding those results, Scott was able to finish sixth in the FedEx Cup standings.

The 2020 season has gotten off to a fast start for Scott. He has made six cuts in seven starts and picked up his 14th career victory at the Genesis Open at Riviera in February. He also had top 25 finishes at the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions (T11th) and at the Safeway Open (T17th). His only missed cut came in his final start before the tour was delayed, as he came up short of playing the weekend at the Arnold Palmer Inviational.

Scott has proven over the years that he has the game to compete with the game’s best. But can he contend for the FedEx Cup? The shortened schedule this season could work in his favor. Scott has never made more than 21 starts on the PGA Tour during his career. If he’s able to grind out the summer and fall schedules and play enough events, he could be in the hunt for the title.

It remains to be seen what Scott chooses to do this season. But if he plays in enough events, he will be a contender for the FedEx Cup championship.
