Perez, from France, is 27 years old and is quickly making a name for himself on the European Tour. He’s currently seventh in the Race to Dubai and he’s ranked 40th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Perez earned his first European Tour win in September of 2019 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. It happened to come at The Old Course at St. Andrews, where he topped a field that included Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Lee Westwood and others. Perez became the first Frenchman to win the event.
This season, Perez has two top 20 finishes so far. He tied for 16th at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in January. But his best finish this season came the week before, when he tied for second at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Perez came up two shots shy of winner Westwood, finishing in a tie for second with Fleetwood and Matthew Fitzpatrick.
Perez is getting it done on the greens. He’s currently eighth on the European Tour in putts per greens in regulation and 32nd in average putts per round.
While unknown to some, Perez has a solid game and has proven that he can play with the best players on the European Tour. He’s in very good shape in the Ryder Cup standings, as he is well ahead of Fitzpatrick, who is currently in fifth place. If he can make the team, Perez will instantly become much more known to casual golf fans.
