Viktor Hovland is currently the top-ranked rookie on the PGA Tour. With how talented he is, he is only going to continue his rise throughout the ranks of the golf world.

The PGA Tour has a rookie ranking list over on their site, ranking all of the rookies through the cancellation of the PGA Championship. As of now, Viktor Hovland is the #1 ranked rookie.

He holds the lead over some surprising players. The main surprise is the inclusion of Scottie Scheffler on the list. With how often he has played paired with his consistent success, it’s hard to believe that Scheffler qualifies as a rookie.

He does, and it makes it even more impressive that Viktor Hovland holds the lead in the rookie rankings over him.

With Hovland’s launch into the mainstream last year at the U.S. Open, it should come as no surprise to anyone that he has continued his strong play on Tour after losing his amateur status. He finally found his first win at the Puerto Rico Open, and even though it was a secondary event, it still counts as a PGA Tour win.

Hovland is one of the handful of young stars on Tour right now and definitely seems to be the front runner as the next face of golf. With a strong college career already on his resume, he added the record-breaking appearance and results at the U.S. Open. At just 22, Hovland already has the aforementioned win to go along with seven other top 20 finishes. Not bad for someone who has only played in 19 official PGA Tour events.

He has another impressive accomplishment under his belt, breaking the record for consecutive rounds under 70. The mark dates back to the 1983 season and was previously held by Bob Estes. Estes shot an impressive 17 straight rounds under par. Viktor Hovland was able to surpass that record, shooting 19 rounds in a row in the 60s. His streak started during the fourth round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic with a 64.

It would go through the end of the 2018-19 season, lasting until he showed up at the CJ Cup in October of 2019. An opening rounds 69 broke the record, with a 69 in his second round to put the cherry on top. The streak would stop during the third round, as Hovland shot 74.

As one of the younger players on Tour, one of the most accomplished, and the ability to be one of the most consistent as well, Viktor Hovland shows that not only does he deserve to be the top-ranked rookie, but that he is also well on his way to being one of the top players on the PGA Tour.
