Rejoice Washington golfers, golf course openings start May 5th

The governor of Washington State announced that each golf course in Washington will be added to the list of approved outdoor activities that are allowed to resume, starting on May 5th.

This is fantastic news for everyone who lives in Washington (present included). We will be able to head back out to the golf course, legally I might add, and start playing golf again on May 5th.

Over the last month or so of courses being closed in Washington, it led to a lot of confusion and disgruntled golfers.

Think about what a golf course looks like. It’s a wide-open outdoor activity, that you can play while staying away from people, even if they are in your group. Not touching anything owned by another person, respecting the six-foot social distancing, and even avoiding touching the pins, rakes, and anything else on the course that may have been “contaminated”.

ews. Golf courses and their employees are going to be able to get out and earn a living again. For those who have been playing while the course is closed, they will now be able to get out legally and play.

Not only that, but it’s also going to be a nice reprieve for all of us that have been stuck in the house for the last month. Personally, I sat behind the wheel of my car for the first time in three weeks and had almost forgotten what to do next.

It’s been great being home with the family over this last month. During a time when I am normally working and coaching golf, I am gone for around 80 hours during the workweek from March through May. With this shutdown and stay-at-home orders, It’s been the complete opposite.

I sure do miss golf though, and this is fantastic news.

For all you Washingtonians or even people in other states that are facing similar situations, get ready to get out and enjoy some *hopefully at least” sunshine. Get ready golf course, here we come!
