Golf Courses: Five bucket list locations we would love to play
By Jay Wilhelm
Every avid golfer loves to try new golf courses whenever possible. I picked five of the most sought after locations to play.
There is no shortage of beautiful and difficult golf courses all over the world. Every golfer from the best pro golfers in the world to the weekend hobby golfer love to try new courses. Some are easy to get on and play, and others are close to impossible to reach. I decided to take a look at five that are on my bucket list to play in my lifetime.
Starting at number five is Bethpage Black. Located in Long Island, New York, I couldn’t pass up a chance to play a course that has a warning sign as you walk onto the course that reads, “The Black course is an extremely difficult course which we recommend only for highly skilled golfers.” I’m not one of those “highly skilled golfers,” but I relish the opportunity at trying one of the hardest courses in the world.

Next on the list at number four is a course most known for one hole, and for that reason alone I put it on my list. I want the chance to attack the famed “Island Green.” Of course I’m speaking of the TPC at Sawgrass and the infamous 17th hole. This course is set in Pontre Vedra Beach, Florida. It is home to the PGA Tour headquarters and hosts The Player’s Championship.
At number three I will enjoy one of the most known courses in the world with some of the most beautiful views in the world. We head to California to go to Pebble Beach to play the course as it hugs the coastline of the Pacific ocean. This is one of those courses that is probably on most people’s list to play. It has some of the highest green’s fees in the world and that might be one thing that stops a lot of people from giving it a go.
The course I have at number two is a no-brainer, Augusta National of course. It’s almost required to at least want to play the course that hosts The Masters in Augusta, Georgia right? Augusta National is also the only private course I have on my list making it the one I’ll least likely be able to get to. I shall continue to try.
Sitting on the top of my bucket list of courses that I want to play before it is all said and done for me is none other than, “The Home of Golf.” I want to cross the pond to play the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland. A true links course that is considered the oldest golf course in the world. It is called the “home of golf” because golf was first played at St. Andrews at the beginning of the 15th Century, and who wouldn’t want to go back to where it all started.
