Wes Roach is never afraid of a challenge. And he faces one as the PGA Tour resumes, trying to hold on to his tour card once again.

Wes Roach is one of the players who is still trying to get established on the PGA Tour. Roach had to fight his way just to get on the tour and now, he finds himself fighting to keep his spot.

Roach played his college golf at Duke University, graduating in 2011. He immediately turned pro and joined the Korn Ferry Tour in 2012.

The 2012 KFT season was a bit of a struggle for Roach. He made only nine cuts in 21 events and had only one top 10 finish. That came at the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open. By making that top five, he secured his status on the KFT for the following year.

The 2013 season was a much better one for Roach. He rallied in the playoffs to make the cut in three of four events, eventually moving into the top 25 and securing his PGA Tour card for the 2014 season.

Roach struggled in his first go-around on the PGA Tour. He made exactly half of the cuts, 11 of 22, in his first season on tour. His only top 10 was at the Puerto Rico Open, where he finished in a tie for fourth place. But at the conclusion of the season, Roach found himself at 153rd place on the FedEx Cup standings list, so he went to the KFT Tour finals. However, he was unable to regain his tour card, and was forced to go back to the KFT full-time for the 2015 season.

That 2015 season was a rewarding one for Roach, who earned his first professional win during the campaign. At the El Bosque Mexico Championship, Roach took home the title, holding off Kevin Tway in the process. That win, coupled with one runner-up and one third-place finish, propelled Roach to sixth on the KFT money list, and giving him his tour card back for the 2016 season.

Roach made 21 starts in 2016, but made only 9 cuts and had only three top 25 finishes. That wasn’t nearly enough to keep his tour card, so Roach was forced to go back to the KFT once again.

After a tough 2017, Roach went back to the KFT in 2018 and he earned his PGA Tour card in the most dramatic fashion. He eagled the 72nd hole at the Tour Championship to finish 21st on the money list and to earn his way back to the big tour.

The 2019 season saw Roach finish 134th in the FedEx Cup standings after finishing with a pair of top 10s and three top 25s.

This season, Roach has made seven cuts in 11 starts. He finished in a tie for eighth at the Bermuda Championship and tied for ninth at the Puerto Rico Open. He’s currently 147th in the FedEx Cup standings and has ground to make up if he hopes to make the playoffs.

Roach has proven that he can fight through adversity, something that should benefit him as he tries to make the 2020 FedEx Cup playoffs and as he tries to keep his tour card.
