This Tuesday, Draftkings will present the DFS community, and those interested in fantasy golf, with a large number of showdown contests for the first round of the TPC Champions Classic!

*This fantasy golf article is focused on the first round showdown contest. Showdown contests offered by Draftkings are vastly different with regard to scoring than the classic contests that Draftkings also offers for DFS. If you are not familiar with the rules for showdown contests I highly recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

Before I dive into my player selections let’s take a quick look at the golf course the field will play on Tuesday.

The TPC Champions Classic will be played at the TPC Scottsdale Champions Course. This track is a par 71 that measures 7,114 yards. It should be noted that due to the fact this course is being played at altitude the true yardage is likely around 6,900 yards. This golf course offers four par-five holes. This track is much easier than it’s sister Stadium course. The Stadium course hosts the Waste Management Phoenix Open on an annual basis.

Here are my player selections for the first round of the TPC Champions Classic!

Dylan Wu $11,400

As I evaluated this week’s field, I wanted to find a way to fade Dylan Wu due to his high Draftkings cost of $11,400. However, I quickly came to the conclusion that I just could not fade Wu in the first round showdown contest. Why? Well, quite simply Wu’s recent form is outstanding.

Wu has four top 11 finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2020, including a fourth-place finish at the El Bosque Mexico Championship in March. Additionally, Dylan Wu fired a first-round 65 in the first round of last week’s Scottsdale AZ Open en route to an eventual tenth place finish.

Patrick Flavin $9,800

The 24-year-old American played last season on the PGA Latinoamerica Tour. Flavin compiled five top 16 finishes on the Latinamerica Tour in 2019, including a win at the Bupa Match Play event. He also shot rounds of 66, 68, and 67 at last week’s Scottsdale AZ Open.

Stuart Macdonald $7,900

He finished 42nd at the Panama Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour in February of this year. I know that 42nd does not sound impressive. However, remember that the Korn Ferry Tour’s overall talent level is exponentially better than the field Macdonald will face this week.

Macdonald fired a first-round 66 at the Legacy Classic (Golden State Tour) earlier this month on his way to a fifth-place tournament result.

John Greco $7,700

Greco finished fifth at the 2019 TPC Champions Classic. In five first rounds played on the Outlaw Tour in 2020, Greco has an average first-round score of 67.60.

Jake Staiano $7,700

Staiano has two top-seven finishes on the Outlaw Tour this season, including a win at the East Valley Championship in March.

Sam Triplett $7,500

He won the McCormick Ranch Open on the Outlaw Tour in January of this year. Additionally, Triplett finished third at the 2019 TPC Champions Classic.

dark. Next. Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods set to face off on Sunday

As always, good luck with your fantasy golf selections.
