Sebastian Cappelen is vying for the playoffs in his first year on the PGA Tour

As we continue to look at the PGA Tour bubble boys, those who are sitting on the bubble to make this year’s FedEx Cup playoffs, we come to Sebastian Cappelen. Wait, who? Even the biggest PGA Tour fans may not know who Cappelen is.

A native of Denmark, Cappelen played his collegiate golf at the University of Arkansas. There, he was a four-time All-American, won the Southeastern Conference title in 2013 and finished ninth in the NCAA Championship his senior season.

Upon graduation, Cappelen turned pro and played 12 events on the Korn Ferry Tour. He made seven cuts and finished 70th on the KFT money list.

Cappelen returned to the KFT in 2015, where he made 11 cuts, had four top 25 finishes and placed 78th on the money list. He would play the KFT again in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

However, it was 2019 that was a breakthrough year for Cappelen

That season, while still playing on the KFT, he earned his first professional victory, coming from four shots back to win the REX Hospital Open. Cappelen would finish 16th on the KFT money list that season, earning his way to the PGA Tour for the very first time.

Cappelen has played in 13 events on the tour this season, making eight cuts. He started the season with a T64 at the Military Tribute at the Greenbrier, followed by a T54 at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

After missing the cut at the Safeway Open, Cappelen registered a T66 at the Houston Open, a T35 at the Bermuda Championship and a T66 at the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

Cappelen missed the cut at the RSM Classic to finish the 2019 calendar year. As 2020 got started, Cappelen had his best finish of the season, a tie for sixth at the American Express. He followed that with another top 25 finish, as he recorded a T21 at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Cappelen is currently 130th in the FedEx Cup standings and needs to make up some ground as the sprint to the FedEx Cup playoffs resumes. He has proven that he has the ability to have strong finishes and now Capplen just needs a more consistent effort.
