Golf News: We have a Golf Video Game again in PGA Tour 2K21

We have a new golf video game to look forward to, as Justin Thomas becomes the cover athlete of the new PGA Tour 2K21 game.

It’s been a while since we had a golf video game that was both worth playing and included professional golfers. PGA Tour 2K21 comes out in August and will look to satisfy both of those requirements.

I’ve been playing golf games for a long time. Probably 20 years, if not more. I can remember playing Tiger Woods games on my grandparent’s computer before I turned 10. Growing up playing video games and in the coming out of Tiger Woods led me to, understandably, turning to the game of golf.

It’s been a while since we have seen a golf game that was good while including professional golfers. Maybe since Tiger Woods 12 when they starting including Augusta in the game. This means that we are approaching a decade without a truly great golf game.

PGA Tour 2K21 looks to break that cycle as the next great golf game.

Sure, there were some Rory McIlroy golf games. I never heard anything spectacular about them. Same for the Golf Club games. The most recent one had some good reviews, but there is always something lacking when you aren’t getting to play against the professionals.

MLB The Show 20 exemplified that this year by including all of the minor leaguer’s real names in their game this year. Regardless of the level that you are playing in the game, you can see and play against, at least the names of, real players. It’s something that makes the game better, and PGA Tour 2K21 is getting back on that track.

Justin Thomas takes the helm, as it looks to be in the mold of MLB or the NFL. They aren’t calling it “Justin Thomas Golf 2K21”, but PGA Tour 2K21. This likely means that we are going to see a different cover athlete every year. Which is fantastic news, and should keep the series going strong.

The game comes out on August 21st, only a few months away. There are a fair amount of pros in the game, the FedEx Cup, multiple real courses, and popular brands as well.

Regardless of where you play video games, it is going to be out on nearly every console brand. Get your virtual gear ready, as your player’s new career can start as soon as PGA Tour 2K21 gets here.
